Iron Man

Forget the Spider-Man and X-Men franchises, the one to watch for is Marvel's next release - Iron Man. The use of Black Sabbath's classic "Iron Man" metal riff in the trailer, when the prototype grey suit makes its first appearance, is just perfect but hang in there for the final version of the suit. All my misgiving about the casting of Robert Downy Jr. as Tony Stark are laid to rest - he's perfect in the role. The relocation from Vietnam to Afghanistan is clever and gives the project a contemporary resonance where it would otherwise be a period piece. This movie will make you hate yourself for throwing away all of those old Iron Man comics. Check out the trailer here

  1. This trailer looks pretty impressive, but then again, they usually do. My only memory of Iron Man is from the 1960s cartoon series, which had a unique animation style, where characters statically moved across the screen.

  2. Yeah I remember those cartoons too. There was Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, The Sub-Mariner, and Hulk. I still remember the jingle from the Captain America ones: When Captain America throws his mighty shield, All those who choose to oppose his mighty shield must yield! If he's led to a fight and a duel is due, Then the Red and the White and the Blue will come through, When Captain America throws his mighty shield!" Talk about your politically incorrect superhero!

  3. I too, was riveted by the trailer. Didn't it come out way soon?

  4. Glen,

Now that Iron Man is out, what do you think of the obvious propaganda and anti middle-eastern message found subtly (and not so subtly!) throughout the film?

Frankly I'm tired of seeing America kick a$$ and blow stuff up.... on the big screen and in real life.
