Thank God for You Tube! If you have never taken the quarter of an hour needed to listen to Dr. King's I Have a Dream speech, you cannot really be said to understand the nature of the modern world. Do yourself a favour and watch it.
[There was a] man from Atlanta, Georgia
By the name of Martin Luther King
He shook the land like rolling thunder
And made the bells of freedom ring today
With a dream of beauty that they could not burn away
Just another holy man who dared to take a stand
My God, they killed him !
- Kris Kristofferson
Awesome! I will sit down and watch it!
ReplyDeletei watched it in my speech class and it was very moving!! i reallyt liked it!
ReplyDeletewoah! I must admit that black-white racial issues have never been something close to my heart....but that speech really moved me! Talk about a man after God's heart!
ReplyDeleteI watched this the other day, (as you know), and found it awe inspiring.
ReplyDeleteOne cannot watch this speech and not be moved, it is an impossability.
I wonder though if we had followed the equal rights movement in the sixtys in Australia, if reconcilation and an apology would have come about much sooner?
It's just a thought!
In response to Shannon, maybe the apology would have come sooner but it never had that effect on our leaders. Unfortunately, this speech has become a part of our national ethos but we still have a very evident racial divide (just look at the current election!) I do see signs of hope. In spite of it all, there is a very real possibility that an African-American man will be President, something I never dreamed possible several years ago.
ReplyDeleteBut real Love of those different from you, real reconciliation is a thing of the Spirit.
