It's Official!

Last Thursday (20 October) I received a call from my supervisor John Hirst to let me know that my PhD thesis has been approved without the need for any major rewrites or revisions (just a few minor changes). It feels great to have it finished. The following words from Martin Luther (pictured above) should keep me well grounded: "If you feel or imagine that you're right and suppose that your book, teaching or writing is a great achievement...then my dear man, feel your ears. If you are doing so properly, you will find that you have a splendid pair of big, long, shaggy, asses' ears."

Where's my PhD?

I'm feeling a little melancholy today as La Trobe University's graduation ceremony went ahead without me! I submitted my PhD thesis in April and here it is six months later and I'm still waiting to hear from my examiners! This is not at all as I imagined it would be. John Capper reminded me today that Karl Barth (pictured here hobnobbing with Catholic theologian Hans Kung in 1966) never even HAD a doctorate. He never had a blog either.
