Another False Prophet

Well, Danny Nallia's prophecy did not come to pass. Not only has John Howard not been re-elected but Peter Costello has declined the leadership challenge (didn't see that one coming). I went to the Catch the Fire blog to see Pastor Danny's response to all this but so far nothing has been posted. It was interesting, however, to find the following "prophecy" from Kenneth Copeland (pictured left) given on 26th October 2007 which Catch the Fire described as "further confirmation of Ps. Danny’s prophetic word given on 11th August 2007 regarding the Federal Election on the 24th November 2007."

“God’s man in Australia [John Howard] stood up and publicly declared Australia a Christian nation! ‘If you want to come here and join us in our Christian faith you are welcome here but don’t think you can come in here and try and force some other religion here on us and don’t think you are going to tell us how to believe God and who we are going to worship.’ He publicly did that, now this is no time for that man to be defeated. Well he’s not going to be. Amen. He is Lord to the glory of God the Father. He is Lord to the glory of God the Father. He is Lord over Australia! It has been announced! Amen.”

So should we now apply the following scripture (Deuteronomy 18:20-22)?

20 But a prophet who presumes to speak in my name anything I have not commanded, or a prophet who speaks in the name of other gods, is to be put to death. 21 You may say to yourselves, "How can we know when a message has not been spoken by the LORD?" 22 If what a prophet proclaims in the name of the LORD does not take place or come true, that is a message the LORD has not spoken. That prophet has spoken presumptuously. No one should be alarmed.

The problem with these guys is that they want to act like Old Testament prophets, anointing "kings" and king's successors and presuming to bring God's word to the whole nation, but they don't want to play by the rules that applied to those same Old Testament prophets.

Kenneth Copeland at his arrogant best.

I don't know that much about this guy, but he does seem rather extreme. My mum used to be a fan of his, I'm not sure what she thinks of him these days. I'm skeptical. Especially after reading that. I hadn't heard he said that. Hmmm....

We've good reason to be sceptical. Where's my tar and feathers? As a general rule I don't watch televangelists like Copeland and his ilk, mainly because of what I see as their preoccupation on fundraising and their often questionable teaching. Not being from a Pentecostal background, I haven't had much to do with Christian leaders who claim prophetic gifts, but I've heard enough anecdotally about the damage that can be caused to peoples' lives through such presumptous statements. Why is it that when these so called prophetic words don't come to pass, those who make them are never called to account? For example, a certain prominent televangelist prophesied the demise of Fidel Castro in the late 1990s. We don't get much news out of Cuba, but as far as we know, he's still alive, but not very well, admittedly. Pull your head in, Mr Copeland.

What should be done with such false prophets?

But the prophet, which shall presume to speak a word in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or that shall speak in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall DIE. And if thou say in thine heart, How shall
we know the word which the LORD hath not spoken? When a prophet speaketh in the name of the LORD, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him. Deut18:20 - 22:

Will these fundamentalists follow the bible ?????

Hi Glen,

I'd better be careful what I say because you're my boss:) Thankyou for having a warm heart, but also a clear head. Pastor Danny must be feeling a little embarrassed at the moment and so he should! He's in position of influence which makes it all the more serious. Lord have mercy on Danny Nahlia!
I recently met a guy who says he has met one of the two witnesses of Revelation. When I asked him to prove it he told me this guy had prophecied that it would flood in the UK - and it did! (I'm sure it floods somewhere in the UK occassionally. I told him I wouldn't accept it at face value, and from past experience, put little stock in end-times "messengers." It's easy to mock - but drives me nuts. Lord forgive me! No wonder people think we're strange! Just another hurdle to overcome when sharing your faith with people! But then God specialises in overcoming hurdles!!! Great Blog Glen

HELLO GLEN!
How are ya? Been writing that wesley screenplay over the break??

Well, I just saw something that I assume you would be already aware of, but nonetheless,

"I'm not there"
do you know what I'm making reference to? I think its quite your cup of tea.

Yes, I have heard about "I'm Not There" and am very keen to check it out. Cate Blanchett looks a spookily real Dylan circa 1966.

And yes, I did indeed work on the Circuit Rider screenplay over the break. It is coming along quite nicely though a lot of work still lies before me! It's a long road to the Oscars ceremony...
