Glen O'Brien said...: Not sure. I assume it's the official video, as it's quite similar (though not quite as good) as the brilliant video of Cash's cover of the Nine Inch Nails song "Hurt." http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=SmVAWKfJ4Go
It's hard to tell whether the words of the title are directed AT the famous people in the video (Johnny Depp, Keith Richards etc.) or whether they are meant to be the sentiment of the people (Dylan, Bono etc). Waddayoureckon?; 2:58 pm
James Garth said...: It's the official video of a version of the song that was recorded by Cash in 2003. The video was directed by Tony Kaye. It won Best Short Form Music Video at the 2008 Grammy Awards.

I interpret the presence of large number of celebrities as simply being their way of showing their respect for Cash's work. Whether they are aware of the irony of the song's lyrics would be something you'd have to ask them!
