Anti-Americanism and the Wesleyan-Holiness Churches in Australia

My journal article on "Anti-Americanism and the Wesleyan-Holiness Churches in Australia" in the Journal of Ecclesiastical History has finally arrived on my desk in hard copy. JEH are also making the article available in a free download from this "deep link" for those who may be interested in reading it.

I just got around to reading your article. Don't you think it's a bit harsh to have lumped the Wesleyans and other "American" denominations with our good friends in the Watchtower Society?

It would be if I did that. I was just saying that Hilary Carey's comments about the cults might also be applied to any conservative evangelical group (including Baptists :). People are attracted to them because they provide an internalised religious choice. This doesn't lump them all in together but just shows that they are alike in this particular sense.

My earlier comment could have been a bit clearer. Obviously it was elements of some Australian churches that were suspicious of the Wesleyans because they were an American import, just like the jay dubs. Never mind that the Wesleyans are on the ball, unlike Charles Taze Russell's organisation.
